Download this articleWith AvePoint Cloud Backup Express, you can restore SharePoint Online site collections to their original location or to a new location, or restore folders and files to the original library. Folder-level and file-level restore is currently in public preview.
Complete the steps below to restore SharePoint Online data:
Navigate to Restore > AvePoint Cloud Backup Express, and then click the SharePoint Online tile.
In the Level field, select what you want to restore:
Site collection - Restore entire site collections. Configure the following conditions:
In the Name field, enter keywords in the site URL or title to search for the site. You can select the site collection that you would like to restore from the drop-down list.
In the Backup time from field, click the Calendar button to select a start date. You can click Reset if you want to clear the settings. Then click the Clock button to define the start time. You can click Clear to remove the time or Done to confirm.
If only Backup time from is specified, Backup time to defaults to the current time.
In the Backup time to field, click the Calendar button to select an end date. You can click Reset if you want to clear the settings. Then click the Clock button to define the end time. You can click Clear to remove the time or Done to confirm.
If only Backup time to is specified, Backup time from defaults to the first date the customer used AvePoint Cloud Backup Express.
Turn the Search from fast recovery points only switch on or off to define whether the search is limited to fast recovery points only.
File & folder - Restore specific folders or files from a SharePoint Online site collection. Configure the following conditions:
In the Name field, enter keywords in the site URL or title to search for the site, and then select the site containing the folders or files you want to restore.
In Select recovery date and time, select the date and time to which you want to restore the data.
The five most recent recovery points closest to the selected time are displayed in the Closest recovery point field. Select the desired recovery point.
Click Search. The search conditions and results are displayed. You can edit the search conditions and click Search to adjust the search results.
For site collections, select the site collections you want to restore from the search results. In the Recovery point column, the latest recovery point is displayed by default. To change the recovery point, click the time to open the Change recovery point panel. Select the backup job that backed up this site collection at the status that you want to restore and then click Save to confirm your selection.
Note that recovery points with Fast recovery tags can provide faster restore performance. You can choose to display only fast recovery points using the option in the upper-right corner. If your search is already limited to fast recovery points, this option will be automatically selected.
For folders and files, all sites and subsites under the selected site collection are displayed. You can search by keywords or browse the backup data to locate the folders or files to restore. Select the items you want to restore.
Click the Restore button above the search results table.
If necessary, enter comments for this restore job in the Description text box.
Choose the restore destination.
Site collections can be restored to:
Original location – Restores the site collections to where they are backed up. The entire site collection will be replaced by the backup version of the selected recovery point. All file and folder permissions, and metadata will also be reverted to the state at the selected time.
New location – Restores the site collections to another destination. A new site collection with a suffix “Rn” (n presents a specific number) in the URL will be created to avoid overwriting current healthy data.
Folders and files will be restored to a new folder named Restored items – YYYY-MM-DD HH-MM-SS in the original library.
Click Next to review the restore summary.
Click Restore to restore the selected data.
